Dubai, 10 November 2025: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, met with Northern Irish golf superstar Rory McIlroy ahead of the DP World Tour Championship 2025, part of the prestigious Rolex Series.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan congratulated McIlroy on his outstanding career achievements, including topping the “Race to Dubai” Rankings six times in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2022, 2023, and 2024. He also extended best wishes for McIlroy’s success in the upcoming tournament scheduled in Dubai from 13 to 16 November.

Rory McIlroy Commends Dubai’s Sporting Vision

Expressing his gratitude, McIlroy thanked Sheikh Hamdan for his encouragement and shared his hope of claiming a seventh Race to Dubai title. He praised Dubai and the UAE for hosting world-class golf events that attract top international players.

The meeting was also attended by Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications. McIlroy, the 2025 Masters Champion, expressed admiration for Dubai’s commitment to promoting health and fitness through the Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC).

“Dubai has always held a special place in both my career and my life. I won my first professional title here at the Dubai Desert Classic in 2009, and I’ve won more tournaments in Dubai than in any other city. In many ways, Dubai has been part of my journey from the very beginning,” McIlroy said.

Praise for Dubai Fitness Challenge

McIlroy highlighted the leadership of Sheikh Hamdan in transforming Dubai into one of the most active and health-conscious cities globally. “The vision behind the Dubai Fitness Challenge is truly inspiring. It’s not just for elite athletes but encourages everyone, at every age and fitness level, to get active and improve their health,” he added.

Having competed in Dubai for nearly two decades, McIlroy returns for his 14th DP World Tour Championship appearance this year. He noted that Dubai’s transformation into a global hub for sports and wellness reflects visionary leadership and strategic development.

Golf’s Growing Role in Dubai Fitness Challenge 2025

McIlroy acknowledged the inclusion of golf as a central activity in the Dubai Fitness Challenge 2025, describing it as a sport that blends physical movement with mental discipline and offers accessibility to all age groups. He emphasized that golf encourages outdoor activity and can be enjoyed regardless of fitness level.

The five-time Major Champion enters this week’s DP World Tour Championship leading the Race to Dubai Rankings and aims to secure the title for a seventh time. His recent victory at the 2025 Masters at Augusta National marked a historic achievement, making him the first European golfer to complete the career Grand Slam by winning all four major championships.
