Program Structure and Global Reach

The initiative, officially termed the Program for Global Human Resource Development for Peacebuilding and Development, evolves from a previous peacebuilding capacity-building program that ran across Asia from 2007 to 2014. Launched in FY2015, this expanded edition aims to prepare civilians for roles resolving conflict and fostering development in complex global contexts.

The program is implemented by Hiroshima University with overseas assignment arrangements handled by the United Nations Volunteer program. Its design incorporates both online and in-person sessions, reflecting a balanced approach to skill development.

Participant Demographics and Training Timeline

The cohort includes 12 non-Japanese members from countries and entities like Cambodia, Nepal, Iraq, Palestine, and the African Union Commission. They began their training online in mid-October and initiated in-country learning from November 4, with further activities slated for Hiroshima through the end of November.

Mr. Onishi concluded the meet by expressing hope that these participants will emerge as strong advocates for peace and development in their respective spheres.
