GAC Shares Insights on Digital Market Regulation in Marrakech

The General Authority for Competition (GAC) furthered its global engagement by participating in a focused workshop on digital platforms in Marrakech. The event took place alongside the International Conference on Digital Platforms, hosted by the Moroccan Competition Council.

Dr. Fahad bin Ibrahim Alshathri, the CEO of GAC, addressed attendees on the growing importance of digital transformation as a key factor in economic progress. He highlighted that digital platforms are reshaping the business landscape by offering wider market access to entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to enhance their competitiveness.

Balancing Innovation and Fair Play

Dr. Alshathri emphasized that while digital growth creates opportunities, it also presents challenges for market regulators. He underlined the need for a regulatory framework that supports innovation while ensuring fair competition and safeguarding consumers from anti-competitive behaviour.

Global Dialogue on Digital Competition

The workshop brought together experts from various regulatory bodies to discuss obstacles in governing digital platforms. Participants exchanged knowledge on best practices for ensuring transparency and promoting equal access in digital markets. The event underscored the necessity of creating balanced policies that support digital growth and protect market fairness.

GAC’s involvement reflects Saudi Arabia’s ambition to bolster its role in international discussions on digital economy governance. The authority continues to strengthen its capabilities in monitoring digital competition as part of its mission to build a transparent and equitable business environment.
