MEMI Returns to Foster Arab Drama Talent
Red Sea Labs is preparing to host the Middle East Media Initiative (MEMI) once again as part of the upcoming Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah. Scheduled from December 4 to 9, the initiative is tailored to elevate emerging Arab screenwriters and television drama creators by helping them shape compelling stories drawn from their lived realities.
Professional Training for New Voices
The program, introduced by the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, aims to enhance the skillsets of Arab storytellers. MEMI emphasizes the power of fictional, character-focused narratives rooted in regional experiences, encouraging creators to develop stories that resonate with diverse audiences and inspire social reflection.
Eligibility and Application Details
Submissions are open until November 9. To qualify, candidates must be of Arab descent, confidently write in English, and own full rights to their series concept. While applicants can apply individually or in pairs, projects must strictly belong to the drama genre, excluding documentary or anthology formats.
Interested participants can apply through the festival’s official portal.
A Platform for Innovative Arab Narratives
The initiative offers an invaluable opportunity for creative minds across the Arab world to refine their craft under expert guidance. With a focus on authentic, impactful narratives, MEMI continues to uplift regional voices on a global stage.
