Swiss Firm BTRY Secures Funding to Expand Ultra-Thin Solid-State Batteries
A Swiss startup specializing in next-generation energy storage, BTRY AG, has raised $5.7 million to expand production of its ultra-thin solid-state lithium-ion batteries. The oversubscribed seed round brings together a mix of international investors, signaling strong global interest in the company’s approach to compact, fast-charging, and thermally resilient batteries.
The funding round was led by Redstone VC, with support from Bloomhaus Ventures, Linear Capital, Kickfund, Kick Foundation, and the founders of CustomCells, Leopold König and Torge Thönnessen. Returning investors HTGF and Zürcher Kantonalbank also reaffirmed their confidence by participating in the round.
Scaling Up for Global Demand
BTRY plans to use the fresh capital to scale up its production via industrial roll-to-roll manufacturing. This shift from lab-scale development to mass production aims to meet the increasing demand for power sources suitable for compact electronics such as connected labels, wearables, and industrial sensors.
“The interest from diverse deep-tech and industrial partners reflects the global appetite for safe, compact, and durable power solutions,” said CEO and Co-Founder Moritz Futscher. He emphasized that BTRY’s technology bridges the gap between research innovation and scalable production.
A Leap in Battery Performance
BTRY’s thin-film solid-state batteries combine key advantages like ultra-fast charging, fire resistance, and compact design. Their architecture does away with liquid electrolytes found in conventional lithium-ion cells, making them safer and more stable. The batteries are just 0.1 mm thick, can charge in under a minute, and function reliably at temperatures up to 150°C.
These attributes open doors to a variety of high-value applications where size, reliability, and safety are paramount. “Potential clients are already developing devices that need compact, high-powered batteries – a need BTRY is equipped to meet,” said Mohamed Foulser, Investment Director at Redstone.
Sustainability at the Core
Beyond performance, BTRY is also committed to sustainability. Its production process minimizes environmental impact by eliminating toxic solvents and reducing material waste. This aligns with the company’s strategy to deliver future-proof energy solutions with both technological and ecological benefits.
