The Legislative Department held a significant Vande Mataram Commemorative Singing Event today at Room No. 440, Conference Hall, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. The program, which began at 9:50 A.M., was chaired by Dr. Rajiv Mani, Secretary, and attended by Shri R.K. Pattanayak, Additional Secretary, Dr. K.V. Kumar, Additional Secretary, along with other senior officers and staff members of the Legislative Department.

150 Years of India’s National Song

This occasion marked the formal launch of the Vande Mataram Commemorative Year 2025–26, celebrating 150 years since the creation of the national song, “Vande Mataram.” Senior officers and staff of the Legislative Department, including those from the Official Language Wing (OLW) and Vidhi Sahitya Prakashan (VSP), participated in the singing with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.

Historical Significance of Vande Mataram

Composed by Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875 and included in his novel ‘Anandamath,’ Vande Mataram transcended literature to become a call to action. The song inspired people to intensify their struggle for freedom and liberty from colonial rule. More than just a song, Vande Mataram stands as a tribute to India, serving as a timeless reminder of citizens’ duty to the nation and its rich cultural heritage.

Secretary’s Address on the Occasion

During the event, the Secretary of the Legislative Department emphasized the enduring relevance of Vande Mataram in promoting unity and national pride. He stated, “Vande Mataram is not just a song but a soul-stirring expression of India’s spirit of freedom, resilience, and cultural unity. As we commemorate its 150 years, let us reaffirm our collective commitment to the ideals of our nation.”
