Gujarat Hosts Launch of NITI Aayog’s Tech-Led Agriculture Blueprint
NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub has released a forward-looking plan titled “Reimagining Agriculture: A Roadmap for Frontier Technology Led Transformation.” The document was officially presented in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, during a high-profile event attended by key government leaders, tech experts, and agricultural policymakers.
Focus on Tech-Enabled Farming for a Sustainable Future
The roadmap puts a strong focus on integrating advanced technologies such as precision agriculture, climate-resilient seeds, digital twins, and intelligent automation. These tools are geared toward raising farm productivity, improving sustainability, and boosting the income of farmers across India’s varied agricultural zones.
Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel underlined Gujarat’s proactive steps toward digital farming. Initiatives like the Digital Crop Survey and the i-Khedut portal are helping farmers enhance productivity, reduce costs, and adopt modern farming tools and seeds. The Chief Minister expressed confidence in the state’s capacity to lead the tech-driven evolution of Indian agriculture and called for farmer empowerment to meet the goals of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Tailored Solutions for Diverse Farmer Segments
According to NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, technology must reflect the diversity of India’s farming community. The roadmap distinguishes between Aspiring, Transitioning, and Advanced farmers, proposing targeted approaches based on their specific needs. This adaptability is seen as crucial for expanding the impact of frontier solutions while keeping smallholders and commercial farmers alike in focus.
Building a Unified Ecosystem for Agricultural Innovation
The document stems from an extensive collaboration between leading industry and knowledge partners, including Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Google, and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub has worked with over 100 experts in its mission to chart thematic transformation roadmaps across 20 sectors over the next decade.
Distinguished Fellow of NITI Aayog, Debjani Ghosh, highlighted the shift from traditional metrics such as yield and acreage to a more data-driven, intelligence-backed approach. She emphasized the need for speed, scale, and thoughtful design to empower farmers as co-builders of this new agriculture paradigm.
