
The National Watershed Conference began today in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, centering on the integration of innovation, technology, and community participation in the upcoming phase of the Watershed Development Component under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (WDC–PMKSY 3.0).
Conference Overview
Organized by the Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, the two-day conference brings together senior officials from Central and State Governments, researchers, and NGO representatives. Discussions are focused on strategies to promote sustainable and resilient watershed management practices across the country.

Inaugural Remarks
Shri Pemmasani emphasized the need for forward-looking soil and water conservation programs that balance current and future water requirements. He highlighted the role of modern technology and active community involvement in developing innovative and sustainable watershed solutions.
The Secretary of DoLR stressed transitioning from conventional watershed methods to integrated and holistic approaches. He suggested including river restoration and the revival of traditional water bodies as part of watershed activities.
Shri Shashi Bhushan Kumar traced the evolution of watershed development programs and expressed gratitude for Guntur being chosen as the venue. Shri Nitin Khade highlighted that the field experiences and ideas shared during the conference will guide the design of WDC–PMKSY 3.0.
Conference Duration and Outcomes
The conference is scheduled to continue until 11th November 2025. The key recommendations from the event are expected to play a significant role in shaping the framework for the next phase of watershed development programs under WDC–PMKSY 3.0.
