Kalinath Koinwar, a resident of Aidega village in Charaideo district, passed away at the age of 98.
He was a veteran freedom fighter and had been honoured with the state’s highest civilian award in recognition of his contribution.
His death has been described as the end of an era in the region.
Local MLA Dharmeshwar Koinwar expressed grief over his demise.
District administration officials, along with members of the Assam freedom struggle association, also paid tribute to him.
