Ekta Nagar Hosts 15-Day Commemoration of Tribal Icon
Ekta Nagar in Kevadia is hosting a series of programmes to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda. The observance is part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Year and Bharat Parv initiatives and runs from 1 to 15 November 2025. The event began with traditional rituals honouring Birsa Munda and other tribal deities.
National Conference and Cultural Showcases
A national-level conference focusing on the life and contribution of Birsa Munda was organized with participation from scholars, students and subject experts from different states. Research presentations and discussions highlighted his role in tribal identity, resistance movements and social reform.
A dedicated Ekta Nagar theme pavilion has also been created, offering visitors insight into Birsa Munda’s life story and historical significance. Exhibitions feature tribal art forms such as Pithora and Warli painting, alongside displays of traditional handicrafts and tribal cuisines with live demonstrations.
Tribal Heritage Presented Through Music, Dance and Theatre
Daily cultural programmes showcase various tribal dance forms from Gujarat and other states, accompanied by traditional attire and musical instruments. A theatre production narrates the journey of Birsa Munda, portraying his leadership and contributions to the freedom movement and community rights.
Rath Yatra Connects Communities Across Regions
To ensure wider participation in the commemoration, a Tribal Pride Rath Yatra has been organized along two major routes. On 7 November, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel flagged off the Yatra from Ambaji, while Tribal Development Minister Naresh Patel initiated the procession from Umargam in Valsad.
The celebrations will conclude on 15 November with a large public gathering and dignitaries in attendance. A book narrating Birsa Munda’s life will be released, along with the launch and inauguration of various schemes aimed at tribal development.
