Gir Somnath, November 12, 2025: Acting under the directive of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and the strict instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, authorities have intensified the state-wide campaign to remove illegal encroachments from government land. As part of this initiative, a major demolition operation was conducted in the Prabhas Patan area of Gir Somnath district.

Major Demolition Action Conducted

The local administration carried out a large-scale demolition drive targeting illegal structures erected on government land meant for public use such as playgrounds, gardens, libraries, and healthcare facilities. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi reaffirmed that the government would take decisive action against all such illegal constructions standing on land reserved for community welfare purposes.

In Prabhas Patan, under tight police security, authorities used bulldozers to demolish a total of 12 illegal encroachments. These included one religious structure (a dargah), three commercial shops, and eight residential buildings.

Encroachment-Free Land Restored

Through this operation, approximately 1,300 to 1,400 square metres of government land valued at over ₹1.5 crore have been cleared and reclaimed for lawful public use. Officials confirmed that the operation was conducted smoothly until unrest broke out at one location.

Stone Pelting Incident and Police Response

While authorities were removing a religious encroachment, a large crowd suddenly gathered at the site and began pelting stones at police personnel. To bring the situation under control, the police were compelled to use mild force and resort to a lathi charge.

Several police officers and personnel sustained injuries during the clash. The police have since registered cases against the individuals involved in the incident and initiated appropriate legal action against those responsible for disturbing public order and obstructing official duty.

Firm Government Stance

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi reiterated that the state government is determined to free all public spaces from illegal occupations. He emphasized that government land designated for community services such as playgrounds, gardens, libraries, and dispensaries will be protected from unlawful encroachments and made available for their rightful public purpose.
