Sugarcane Growers Continue Protest in Belagavi
Sugarcane cultivators in Gurlapura of Belagavi district have continued their protest for the past several days, demanding that sugar mills pay a fair price for their produce. State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra stated that the situation of farmers is concerning and alleged that the government has not addressed their grievances. He noted that Karnataka crushes around 6 million tonnes of sugarcane, contributing approximately Rs 55,000 crore to the state economy. He urged authorities to respond promptly to the farmers’ concerns.
Measures to Ease Traffic on Ballari Road
GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao inspected several locations in north Bengaluru and instructed officials from the BBMP, Metro, and NHAI to collaborate to mitigate congestion on Ballari Road. He asked Metro authorities to clear remaining construction materials and directed asphalting work on the Hebbal flyover, along with installation of signboards at key junctions to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
Former Minister H.Y. Meti Passes Away
Senior Congress leader and MLA H.Y. Meti passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru after days of medical treatment. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited him during his hospitalization and later expressed grief over his demise. His last rites will be performed in Timmapura village of Bagalakote district. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, expressing personal sorrow, announced the postponement of a scheduled book release event.
Political Developments
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka criticized the Shakti scheme in certain parts of Kalyana Karnataka, stating that the absence of buses in 38 villages renders the scheme ineffective. He also pointed to deteriorating infrastructure and traffic issues in Bengaluru.

Stray Dog Control Measures in Kolar
As part of district-level directives, officials in Kolar have been asked to take strict measures to manage the stray dog population, estimated at 31,000 across 154 Gram Panchayats. Compensation procedures have also been instructed for those affected by dog bites.
