The southwest monsoon has made a strong entry into Maharashtra. Mumbai and many other parts have been receiving continuous heavy rainfall since yesterday. The rain has brought much-needed relief from the heat and humidity.
Mumbai Update:
No sunshine was recorded in Mumbai city and suburbs yesterday. Heavy continuous rain caused waterlogging in low-lying areas, affecting traffic. Local train services were disrupted due to waterlogging on tracks. Services on the Trans-Harbour line were briefly halted due to subsidence near the tracks.
Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the Kurla area and said dewatering pumps are working at full capacity.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai and Palghar districts today, with the possibility of very heavy rain and high tides along the coast. Winds up to 80 kmph are likely.
Orange Alert has been issued for Thane, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts. Ratnagiri has also received a Red Alert.
In other areas:
- Sangli is receiving light to moderate rain.
- Ratnagiri district recorded heavy rainfall yesterday, with Dapoli receiving 134 mm, followed by Mandangad and Sangameshwar at 116 mm each.
- Kolhapur district is also receiving good rainfall and has been placed under a Yellow Alert for the next four days.
- Jalna city and surrounding areas are experiencing continuous rain since morning, which will benefit delayed Kharif sowing.
