Lawngtlai District Gears Up for 12th Lai Autonomous District Council Election

The Lawngtlai District Level Standing Committee convened a meeting at the DC Conference Hall to review election preparedness for the upcoming 12th Member of District Council (MDC) election under the Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC). The meeting was chaired by District Election Officer (DEO) Pu Donny Lalruatsanga.

Addressing the members, Pu Donny Lalruatsanga expressed gratitude for their support and emphasised the need for free, fair, and transparent elections. He urged election officials to ensure that every eligible voter is able to exercise their right without hindrance. He further encouraged collaboration among NGOs, political parties, and community representatives to facilitate voter awareness and smooth election conduct.

The DEO underlined the importance of coordination and preparedness among officials, highlighting the need to prevent issues related to money or material influence during the polls. He also appreciated the efforts of the Mizoram People’s Forum (MPF) in promoting ethical voting practices and requested their continued cooperation.

Superintendent of Police Pu P.C. Lalchunglura informed the committee about security arrangements, noting that additional personnel from the 3rd IR and 2nd Battalion MAP have been requisitioned to ensure a peaceful polling process. Election Officer Pu Collin Hlychho reported that preparations for the “General Election to LADC 2025” are underway, with all necessary appointments and materials in place.

Election and Security Arrangements Finalised

According to the district administration, three Returning Officers, three Assistant Returning Officers, 17 Sector Officers, and 14 Nodal Officers have been appointed. Lawngtlai District will have a total of 111 polling stations, including an auxiliary polling station at Pangkhua. Home voting facilities will be available for one voter in Hmawngbuchhuah. Women-led polling teams will manage Bungtlang S-II, Saizawh East, and Lungzarhtum polling stations. Dispatch operations will be conducted at the DC Office, while counting and result announcements will take place at Government College Lawngtlai.

The meeting concluded with all committee members in attendance, reaffirming their commitment to conduct the elections smoothly and uphold democratic integrity in the district.

GIS-Based Master Plan for Lunglei Town Discussed

The Lunglei Town Planning and Development Committee convened a meeting at the Lunglei Municipal Council (LMC) Board of Councillors Hall to deliberate on urban planning initiatives, focusing on the Geographic Information System (GIS)-Based Lunglei Master Plan.

The meeting was chaired by LMC Vice-Chairman Pu K. Lalrinawma and attended by LMC Councillors, Local Council Chairmen, and officials from various departments. Consultants from Spatial Decisions, engaged under the AMRUT 2.0 programme, along with Deputy Director Pi R. Lalhmangaihzuali from the Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA) Department’s Town and Country Planning Wing, presented an overview of the Master Plan framework.

The GIS-Based Master Plan is designed to guide the structured growth of Lunglei Town up to the year 2045. The plan aims to promote sustainable development, efficient land use, and enhanced infrastructure planning. It will be implemented based on extensive field studies, data collection, and community consultations with both citizens and departments to ensure inclusivity and accuracy.

Preparatory activities, including comprehensive household surveys and situational assessments, are scheduled for completion within the year 2025 to facilitate the plan’s execution. The initiative seeks to make Lunglei a model for data-driven urban planning in Mizoram, supporting risk-informed development and long-term resilience.
