NPF Merges with NDPP in Kohima
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) Party unanimously approved its merger with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party through a show of hands at the General Convention held in Kohima yesterday. The decision ratified the resolutions adopted by the Central Office Bearers and Central Executive Council on October 18. The Convention also elected a new team of Central Office Bearers, the Central Executive Council, and office bearers of the Frontals and Cells for the 2025-2030 tenure. The new team is led by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio as the President of the NPF.
The Convention resolved to continue strengthening the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance in Nagaland and supporting the National Democratic Alliance and the North East Democratic Alliance, to accelerate inclusive development and contribute towards achieving genuine peace in Nagaland and Manipur. The Convention also reiterated the need for an early and honourable settlement to the Indo-Naga political issue and urged the Government of India and Naga political groups to expedite negotiations.
Deputy CM Y. Patton on Self-Reliance by 2047
Deputy Chief Minister Y. Patton has emphasized the goal of achieving full self-reliance by 2047, with a focus on the Northeast region. Speaking at the Atmanirbhar Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan event organized by the BJP 37 Tyui Mandal in Wokha yesterday, Mr. Patton highlighted successful programs like Uttar Pradesh’s One District One Product and the upcoming Banana Festival in Wokha as examples of local initiatives boosting national growth. Reaffirming the vision for a self-reliant India, Mr. Patton urged citizens to embrace hard work and innovation to collectively pursue the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas.”
Election Commission Introduces C-Vigil App
The Election Commission has said that citizens and political parties can now use the C-Vigil App on the ECINET platform to lodge complaints related to violations of the Model Code of Conduct. The Commission, in a statement, said that a complaint monitoring system has also been set up, including a Call Centre number 1950 through which complaints can be lodged by the public or political party, with the District Election Officer and Returning Officer concerned.
GST Reforms Boost Uttarakhand’s Economy
The next-generation GST reforms are driving economic growth in Uttarakhand by lowering taxes across key sectors such as agriculture, tourism, crafts, and manufacturing. Under the new tax structure, GST on hotel rooms priced up to seven thousand five hundred rupees has been reduced from 12 percent to 5 percent. This move is expected to benefit small hotels and homestays in popular destinations like Nainital, Mussoorie, Haridwar, and Rishikesh. The tax rate on cars with up to 1,200 CC petrol engines and 1,500 CC diesel engines has been reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent. This decision has led to lower car prices, increased consumer demand, and greater support for manufacturers. Overall, the GST reforms are unlocking wide-ranging benefits for Uttarakhand’s economy.
18th Imchaba Master Memorial Volleyball Trophy Begins
The 18th Imchaba Master Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy 2025 got underway yesterday at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, Mokokchung. Speaking at the opening ceremony, District Education Officer, Mokokchung, Sennenla, lauded the Mokokchung District Volleyball Association for its consistent efforts in promoting sports at the grassroots level. She encouraged the youth to channel their energy into constructive activities like sports, which build discipline, unity, and leadership.
This year, 14 teams from across Nagaland are competing in a league-cum-knockout format till October 24. In the inaugural match, defending champions MH-10 Kohima defeated Chienino Brothers Kiruphema ‘A’.
