Tribal students participating in career guidance session

Communities across India are coming together with enthusiasm during this special period dedicated to recognising the deep-rooted tribal traditions and their role in shaping the country’s progress. From the islands in the east to the hills in the north, various programs highlight the unique customs and ongoing efforts to support tribal groups.

This observance focuses on the life and legacy of a key figure in tribal history, whose 150th birth year is being marked with activities that encourage greater involvement in both cultural expressions and growth opportunities. Local administrations and schools are at the forefront, arranging sessions that blend education, arts, and community service.

Coastal and Island Initiatives Spark Youth Interest

In the scenic Andaman and Nicobar Islands, young tribal learners in colleges received guidance on career paths, helping them understand options in studies and jobs to build a brighter future. Meanwhile, in Andhra Pradesh, efforts to plant trees underscored the strong ties between tribal folks and their surroundings, promoting care for the environment. A rally celebrating heritage and a gathering to spread awareness at the Integrated Tribal Development Agency in Parvathipuram also drew crowds to discuss ways to advance tribal well-being.

Northern Regions Focus on Health and Documentation

Up in Jammu and Kashmir, a series of steps aim to reach every particularly vulnerable tribal group with full benefits through detailed checks and information drives. Medical setups, sessions with local healers, and new groups for young people to learn skills and play sports are adding layers of support. Efforts to record inspiring stories from tribal lives, update digital records for scheduled tribe members, and create detailed booklets with pictures are underway. There’s even a push to save tribal dialects and writings in digital form. At a girls’ school in Durbuk, a painting event let students show their talents.

Southern and Eastern States Showcase Arts and Stories

Karnataka’s Ashrama School in Kolipalya buzzed with energy as pupils performed dances, acted in plays, and shared tales on the third day of these observances, bringing tribal narratives to life. Over in Nagaland, at the Eklavya school in Tuensang, kids recited poems that captured their sense of belonging to tribal roots.

Western and Central Drives Enhance Access

Rajasthan’s camps for delivering benefits are set up in multiple areas using e-Mitra points, working hand-in-hand with local bodies and tech departments to bring services right to tribal homes.

In Uttar Pradesh, schoolchildren joined contests in writing essays, giving talks, drawing, crafting stories, composing verses, and making rangoli patterns, all centred on tribal ways and the fight for independence.
