Sports Minister felicitates Blind Twenty20 World Cup-winning Indian team

Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated members of the Indian women’s cricket team at his residence on Tuesday following their victory in the inaugural Blind Twenty20 World Cup.

The Indian women’s team defeated Nepal by seven wickets in the final held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday and completed the tournament without a single loss. The competition included six teams comprising India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia and the United States of America.

The team’s achievement followed the recent first-ever ICC Cricket World Cup win secured by the Indian women’s team on home soil.

Sports Minister praises the team

Dr Mandaviya said the Indian women’s blind cricket team had made the country proud and described their accomplishment as an inspiration for specially-abled sportspersons and others striving to bring honour to the nation. He stated that their willpower and resilience helped them achieve what many considered impossible. He extended his best wishes to the players for upcoming competitions and encouraged them to continue giving their best, adding that the nation and the government stand with them.

Team captain acknowledges the recognition

Indian team captain Deepika TC expressed her gratitude, saying she felt honoured to be invited to the minister’s residence for the felicitation. She noted that the interaction with the minister was memorable and that his words would motivate not only the team but also more women from the blind community to pursue sports as a career and bring pride to the country through dedication and hard work.
