Overview of the Initiative
The Department of Posts (DoP), in partnership with the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), has introduced a dedicated medicine delivery service for beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). This service facilitates the pickup, booking, transmission, and doorstep delivery of medicines unavailable at ECHS polyclinics, ensuring seamless access for ex-servicemen across India.
How the Service Works
Under this initiative, medicines are procured and packaged through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) at Common Service Centres (CSCs) located within ECHS polyclinics. The logistics and delivery are handled by India Post’s reliable and extensive postal network, ensuring efficient, secure, and nationwide delivery to ECHS beneficiaries.
Pilot Success and Nationwide Expansion
The service was initially piloted in Delhi on July 31, 2025, where it received an overwhelmingly positive response. Following this success, the initiative was expanded to the National Capital Region (NCR), covering Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. During the pilot phase, over 1,700 packets of medicines were successfully delivered. With a comprehensive mapping of 458 ECHS locations completed, the service is now available nationwide as of October 17, 2025.
