Wreath-Laying Ceremony at National Police Memorial
On October 21, 2025, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh paid tribute to the nation’s police and paramilitary forces by laying a wreath at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi. This solemn event marked Police Commemoration Day, commemorating the sacrifice of ten brave policemen who lost their lives in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959.
Tributes to the Pillars of National Security
In his address, Shri Rajnath Singh expressed deep gratitude to the police and paramilitary forces for their unwavering service to the nation. He described the armed forces and police as twin pillars of national security, with the military safeguarding the country’s geographical borders and the police protecting societal harmony. “While their platforms differ, their mission to protect the nation unites them,” he said, emphasizing the importance of balancing external and internal security as India progresses toward Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Addressing Modern Security Challenges
The Raksha Mantri highlighted the evolving nature of security threats, noting instability at the borders alongside rising internal challenges such as organized crime, terrorism, and ideological conflicts. He pointed out that modern crimes are increasingly complex and aim to disrupt societal trust and national stability. Despite these challenges, he praised the police for their dual role in preventing crime and fostering public confidence, stating, “The peace of our citizens is rooted in their trust in our vigilant armed forces and alert police.”

Shri Rajnath Singh commended the concerted efforts of the police, CRPF, BSF, and local administration in tackling Naxalism, a significant internal security threat. He noted that the issue has been significantly contained, with many top Naxalites neutralized and others surrendering to join mainstream development. “Areas once known as the Red Corridor are now transforming into growth corridors,” he said, expressing optimism that the issue will be fully resolved by March 2026.
Government’s Commitment to Police Modernization
The Raksha Mantri reaffirmed the Modi-led government’s commitment to strengthening national security through police modernization. He highlighted the establishment of the National Police Memorial in 2018 as a tribute to the police’s contributions. Additionally, the government has equipped police forces with advanced tools such as surveillance systems, drones, forensic labs, and digital policing technologies. States have also received adequate resources to modernize their police forces, with a call for better coordination among security agencies to optimize these resources.
Strengthening the Society-Police Partnership
Emphasizing the interdependence of society and police, Shri Rajnath Singh urged citizens to respect the law and work as partners with the police. “Effective policing thrives on mutual understanding and responsibility between the police and the public,” he said, noting that a strong society-police relationship is key to a robust security framework.
