Japan’s Emergency Aid to Mexico for Flood Relief

On October 20, 2025, following a request from the Government of the United Mexican States, the Government of Japan announced its decision to provide emergency relief goods, specifically sanitary products, to support those affected by the recent floods in Mexico. This aid is being facilitated through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Japan’s decision to provide emergency assistance is driven by a humanitarian perspective and the strong bilateral relationship between Japan and Mexico. This aid aims to support the Mexican people impacted by the devastating floods, reflecting the close ties and solidarity between the two nations.

Impact of the Floods in Mexico

The floods that struck Mexico from October 6 to 9, 2025, caused significant loss and damage. According to the Government of the United Mexican States, the disaster resulted in 72 deaths (as of October 18) and over 100,000 damaged buildings (as of October 14), affecting a large number of people across the country.
