Korea Hosts ISO TC 67 General Assembly for the First Time
The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS), led by President Kim Dae-ja, under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR), has announced that Korea will propose four innovative international standards for next-generation offshore plant technologies. These proposals will be presented at the ISO Technical Committee 67 (TC 67) General Assembly, focusing on oil, gas, and lower-carbon energy industries, held in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, from October 20 to 24, 2025.
This historic event marks the first time since its inception in 1947 that the ISO TC 67 General Assembly will convene in Korea, bringing together approximately 100 experts from 16 countries to discuss advancements in international standards for the oil, gas, and renewable energy plant sectors.

Korean Companies Lead in Standardizing Cutting-Edge Technologies
Led by industry giants like Samsung Heavy Industries, Korea is spearheading efforts to standardize technologies that promote unmanned operations and environmental sustainability in offshore plants. The proposed standards include:
Safety and Efficiency Standards
- Safety Signage and Emergency Escape Route Requirements: Tailored for unmanned offshore plants to ensure operational safety.
- Aerogel Insulation Installation Guidelines: Designed to optimize the efficiency of ammonia and hydrogen pipelines in renewable energy plants.
Structural and Material Standards
- Material Specifications for Piping and Structural Components: Focused on bolts and nuts suited for harsh marine environments to enhance structural integrity.
- Coating Material Performance and Testing Standards: Aimed at improving corrosion resistance and durability of offshore plant materials.
Showcasing Korea’s Technological Leadership
The General Assembly will feature a technical seminar showcasing Korea’s advancements in offshore plant technologies, alongside a site tour of Samsung Heavy Industries’ shipyard and offshore production facilities. This offers international experts a firsthand look at Korea’s innovative capabilities in the sector.
KATS’ Vision for Global Standardization
KATS President Kim Dae-ja emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “Hosting the ISO TC 67 General Assembly is a milestone for Korea in leading global standardization for offshore plants. We are committed to fostering collaboration on next-generation technologies, such as autonomous and renewable energy plants, while supporting Korean companies in expanding their presence in the global market.”
