Cape Town, October 22, 2025 – The UAE is advancing its commitment to sustainable energy by fostering international cooperation with G20 nations during high-level bilateral meetings at the G20 Energy Meetings in South Africa.
Key Bilateral Discussions
Eng. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, engaged in strategic talks with representatives from Singapore, Ireland, Germany, and Indonesia to promote clean energy initiatives and low-emission technologies.
Collaboration with Singapore
During discussions with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority under the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Al Olama explored cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy, electricity interconnections, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The UAE also invited Singapore to join the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance (GEEA), a UAE-led initiative to drive energy efficiency globally.
Partnerships with Ireland
In a meeting with Ireland’s Philip Nugent, Director-General of EU and International Affairs at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, the UAE discussed opportunities in renewable energy, clean technology, and hydrogen derivatives. The talks also laid the groundwork for the upcoming UAE-Ireland Joint Economic Committee meeting in December, aiming to enhance energy security and low-carbon investments.

Deepening Ties with Germany
Al Olama met with Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, to strengthen collaboration on industrial decarbonization, hydrogen supply chains, and clean technologies. The discussions built on existing frameworks, including the Emirati-German Energy and Climate Partnership, the Bilateral Hydrogen Working Group, and a Joint Declaration of Intent with the Fraunhofer Society.
Engagement with Indonesia
In talks with Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director-General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the UAE explored practical steps for developing energy efficiency codes, performance standards, and incentive programs for buildings. An official invitation was extended to Indonesia to join the GEEA, positioning it as a platform for actionable energy efficiency outcomes.
