State Government Strengthens Farmer Services with Major Mandi Development Approvals

Rajasthan 25 October 2025
The government of Rajasthan, continuing its efforts to advance farmer welfare through expanding facilities and services in the agricultural sector, has approved significant development works in two key mandi (agricultural produce market) areas. The approvals come under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, demonstrating the state’s commitment to strengthening mandi infrastructure for the benefit of farmers. The decision was officially communicated from Jaipur on 25 October 2025 at 12:56 PM.

Approval Details

Aklera Mandi (Jhalawar District)

In the mandi of Aklera, located in Jhalawar district, the government has sanctioned **over ₹1.78 crore** for the construction of a new building for the e-NAM hall office along with other new construction works. This investment aims to modernise the mandi infrastructure and enhance digital marketing capabilities for farmers.

Sriganganagar Fruit-Vegetable & Forest Produce Mandi Yard

In the mandi yard of the Sri Ganganagar-based fruit-vegetable and forest-produce market, approximately **₹50 lakh** has been approved for electrical works. This allocation targets upgrading power infrastructure to support better operations and handling of produce in the mandi yard.

Board Formation for Todaraisingh Mandi (Tonk District)

Additionally, the Chief Minister has approved the constitution of the first board under the Rajasthan Agricultural Produce Markets Act 1961 for the mandi at Todaraisingh in Tonk district, which will now ensure formal administrative operations and governance of the mandi.

Significance for Farmers and Market Operations

By sanctioning these approvals, the state government is enabling:

  • Improved infrastructure in mandi premises—office buildings, power supply, and modern facilities.
  • Better market accessibility for farmers through upgraded e-NAM linked hall and organised yards.
  • Structured governance via board formation for administrative transparency and regulation of operations.

The total sanctioned amount exceeds **₹2.28 crore** combining the two main development sites. This underscores the state’s prioritisation of mandi modernization and farmer service expansion.

Context and Background

The agricultural produce marketing infrastructure plays a vital role in supporting farmers—especially for their produce aggregation, price discovery, storage and onward marketing. The e-NAM system (electronic National Agriculture Market) is increasingly central to this ecosystem, offering digital linkages and transparency. By investing in dedicated hall-offices for e-NAM in mandis like Aklera, the government is aligning with the digital & market reforms trend.

Meanwhile, reliable electricity supply and yard infrastructure in mandis like the one in Sriganganagar enable smoother operations, reduce losses (especially of perishable fruits and vegetables), and enhance the mandi’s capacity to serve farmers efficiently.

Conclusion

These approvals by the Chief Minister mark a visible push towards upgrading mandi infrastructure in Rajasthan. As farmers increasingly depend on modernised mandi services, such investments are important to improve their access to fair markets, reduce operational bottlenecks, and strengthen the overall agricultural value chain. With the new board formation for Todaraisingh mandi, the state is also emphasising governance and accountability in market operations.
