Police Commemoration Day Observance (October 21)

National Tribute and Security Focus

Vice President Jitip Radhakrishnan today paid tribute to the police personnel’s indescribable courage and ultimate sacrifice on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day. In a message on social media, he said, ‘The uncompromising commitment of the police to ensure the nation’s security and the safety and welfare of the public deserves our deepest respect.’ Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said today that only a strong police force can build a strong nation and this is the goal of the government. He made this statement in his speech after laying a wreath and paying tribute to the martyrs at the National Police Memorial in New Delhi on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day. He said that while the defense forces ensure the country’s geographical integrity, the police maintain India’s social integrity.

The Defence Minister further said that as the country enters ‘Amrit Kaal’ and looks forward to becoming a ‘Developed India’ by 2047, balancing the internal and external security of India has become more important than ever.

It is noted that Police Commemoration Day is celebrated every year on October 21st to pay tribute to the ten brave police soldiers who were killed in an attack by armed border forces in Hot Springs, Ladakh.

The Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, the heads of the Central Armed Police Forces, and Central Police Organizations also paid tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths. On this occasion, a joint parade of the Central Armed Police Forces and State Police was held.

State-Level Ceremony in Agartala

Police Commemoration Day was also observed in the state today with due solemnity, along with the rest of the country. The main event was organized at the Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial in Arundhutinagar, Agartala. In the event, Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha paid tribute to the memory of the police personnel and jawans who were martyred while on duty by laying a wreath at the memorial. Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha, State Director General of Police Anurag, along with senior police officials also paid homage. During the Police Commemoration Day ceremony, tribute was paid to 191 police and jawans across the country who were martyred while on duty from December 1, 2024, to August 31 of this year. Among them, 2 were from the state. State Police Sub-Inspector David Darlong was martyred while on duty at Dhalai in North Tripura, and TSR Rifleman Mithin Debbarma was martyred at Gairakuti Tri-junction under Khowai police station.

In the ceremony organized by the State Police Headquarters, the Chief Minister said that on this day, those brave police personnel and jawans who sacrificed their lives for the service of the country and the security of the citizens are remembered with respect. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the country’s paramilitary forces, police forces, and jawans deployed for border security, who have been performing their duties with courage, will continue to perform their responsibilities in the coming days with devotion and professionalism.

 

District and BSF Observances

Police Commemoration Day was also observed today at the Police Line in Kamarangabari, Kailashahar, under the initiative of the Unakoti District Police Administration. Here, names of the martyred security personnel were read out, and floral tributes were offered at the martyrs’ memorial. Present were Unakoti District Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R, Additional Superintendent of Police Rupama Chakma, along with various police officials and staff.

Police Commemoration Day was observed today at the Sector Headquarters of the BSF Tripura Frontier in Shikarbari, Agartala. BSF Tripura Frontier Inspector General Alok Kumar Chakraborty paid homage to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the martyrs’ memorial. In his speech, he explained the significance of Police Commemoration Day.

 

Deepawali and Kali Puja Festival Updates

Matabari: State-Level Festival Continues

On the second day of the state-level Deepawali festival and Mela, there is still a crowd of pilgrims at the Matabari temple and Mela grounds today. Aarti was performed on the eastern bank of Kalyan Sagar this evening.

It is noted that Chief Minister Professor Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated this three-day festival at the open-air theatre in Matabari last evening. Ex-MP Biplab Kumar Deb offered puja at the Matabari temple last night. More than two thousand artists participated in the cultural programs performed for three nights at the open-air theatre.

District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K. informed our representative, Shyam Sundar, that the Mela environment is peaceful and there are no reports of any untoward incidents centered around the Mela.

 

District Celebrations and Public Service

A Mahayagna was held today at the Shantikai Ashram premises in Teliamura’s Chintaram Para on the occasion of the Deepawali festival. Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma and Padma Shri Chittaranjan Maharaj were present.

The pilgrimage town of Dharmanagar is bustling on the second day of the Deepawali festival. Crowds of pilgrims are being observed at the puja pandals of various major clubs, including Athletic Club, IMA E, Alliance Club, Boys Club, Netaji Club, and Nabodaya Sangha, starting from this evening. Puja organizers hope that the rush of pilgrims will increase further after the passenger train from Agartala arrives at Dharmanagar after 10 PM tonight.

Great enthusiasm is being observed among the public in Unakoti district town Kailashahar on the occasion of Shyamapuja and Deepawali celebrations. Crowds of pilgrims are being observed at the pandals since this evening. Cultural programs, Jatra, and other events are organized at various public puja pandals tonight. The entire area is illuminated with colorful lights and a glittering environment prevails. An atmosphere full of festivities is everywhere.

Kumari Puja was held this morning at the Joy Maa Santan Sangha Kalibari in Indranagar.

A Chandi Mahayagna was held today at the Khowai Subhash Park Kalibari on the occasion of the Deepawali festival. Meanwhile, winter clothes were distributed to over a hundred poor people by the police standing at Subhash Park yesterday on the occasion of Shyamapuja. District Superintendent of Police Ratanaditya Das was present.

The Mela continues today around the Deepawali festival at Gourmaya Kalibari in Belonia, Raj-Rajeshwari Mandir in Muhuripur (under Jolaibari block), and Maheshwari Kalibari in Pilak. MP Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated the two-day Deepawali festival at Raj-Rajeshwari Mandir in Muhuripur and Maheshwari Kalibari in Pilak parking zone yesterday evening. He assured that a project worth about Rs. 30 crore would be undertaken for the development of Raj-Rajeshwari, Kanyeshwari, and Belonia Kalibari temples, similar to the Mata Tripureshwari Temple development project.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Deepak Majumder offered puja and distributed clothes to the needy at Gol Bazar Kali Bari today. Councillor Ratna Datta was present.

‘Maan Ki Baat’ Broadcast Schedule

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will share his thoughts with the people of the country and abroad in the ‘Maan Ki Baat’ program on All India Radio next October 26. This will be the 127th episode of ‘Maan Ki Baat’. ‘Maan Ki Baat’ will be broadcast from 11 AM on all channels of All India Radio and Doordarshan, and on All India Radio’s News On AIR website, mobile app, the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s website, and YouTube channels.

CBC Program on Cleanliness and Environment

A special awareness program on ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ (One Tree in the Name of the Mother) was organized today at Sabroom Bazar, managed by the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) Field Office, Agartala, and the Sub-Zonal Office, Aizawl, of the Central Government. The Chairman of the Sub-Zonal Development Committee, Apurba Debbarma, was present. Mr. Debbarma emphasized adopting cleanliness as a daily habit and stressed the importance of public participation in maintaining hygiene everywhere, starting from home. Under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, he encouraged everyone to plant at least one tree in honor of their mother. He also raised issues of pollution reduction, water conservation, assistance in protecting biodiversity, and securing greenery for future generations. The Officer-in-Charge of CBC Agartala, H.K. Gang, detailed the objectives of both initiatives and conducted a cleanliness-related quiz.
