Fit India’s Iron Wheels of Unity: Nationwide Cycling Expeditions

Commemorating Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, through its flagship Fit India initiative, is set to launch two transformative cycling expeditions, Iron Wheels of Unity, starting October 31, 2025. These expeditions honor the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, embodying national unity, fitness, and environmental consciousness across India.

Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K) Expedition

The Kashmir to Kanyakumari (K2K) cycling expedition will cover an impressive 4,480 kilometers, starting in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, on October 31, 2025, and concluding in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on November 16, 2025. The route will pass through Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. This expedition, involving 150 cyclists, serves as a tribute to Sardar Patel’s legacy of unity.

Leading the K2K expedition is Nisha Kumari, a renowned mountaineer who summited Mount Everest on May 17, 2023, and cycled from India to London to advocate for climate change awareness.

Pedal to Plant Expedition

The Pedal to Plant expedition will cover 4,000 kilometers, beginning in Pangsau, Arunachal Pradesh, and ending in Mundra, Gujarat, on December 31, 2025. Cyclists will travel through Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. This initiative emphasizes environmental sustainability, with participants planting 100,000 saplings and conducting climate and fitness awareness sessions in schools and colleges along the route.

Union Minister’s Message of Support

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, extended his heartfelt support, stating:

“I extend my best wishes to the cyclists participating in the Fit India Iron Wheels of Unity campaign, a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a fitter and healthier India, this initiative promotes an active lifestyle. Cycling is not only a path to fitness but also a solution to pollution. I urge every Indian to dedicate 30 minutes to an hour daily to fitness through cycling.”

Promoting Fitness and Sustainability

Building on the Fit India Sundays on Cycle movement, launched by Dr. Mandaviya, the Iron Wheels of Unity expeditions aim to foster sustainable fitness and environmental responsibility. These initiatives are projected to reduce carbon emissions by over 100,000 kilograms, reinforcing Fit India’s commitment to a healthier and greener nation.
